Oxford Flying Club was officially opened through the Mayor of Oxford in 1939. However, its life was initially in preference short, and as the country prepared on this account that war, restrictions placed on civil flying rapidly curtailed its activities. Resurrected in 1947 and renamed the Oxford Aeroplane act in concert, it gradually increased its fleet and fame and, by 1960, had made the serious transition from a club for privy pilots to a fully-fledged flying control geared to the training of professional pilots.
