Moonlight Mahjong 1.2 Is Here

Moonlight Mahjong 1.2 is now available!

Here's what's new:
  • Compete against other players over a home Wi-Fi network
  • Compete against an automated opponent
  • Fast-paced "Scramble" mode, where the player who gets the most tiles wins
  • Improved graphics performance and shuffling time
  • Use backgrounds from your photo library
  • Additional tile artwork "Night Tiles"
  • New built-in layouts
  • Miscellaneous fixes and enhancements
This update is so big, it actually required an update to the introduction in the documentation. Here is the new text:
Moonlight Mahjong has several game variations that can be selected using the Game Type menu. In "Puzzle" games, the goal is to solve the board. In "Scramble" games (as in "scrambling for tiles"), the goal is simply to match the most pairs, usually competing against an opponent. You can also play the game by yourself, against an automated opponent, or over a home Wi-Fi network against other human players.

In Puzzle mode, the game will notify you when tiles remain but it is no longer possible to make any matches. At that point, you can restart the board or "Undo" out of the situation. When you clear the board of all tiles, the game will notify you that you have won. Otherwise, there is still a match that can be made somewhere on the board.

In Scramble mode, the round ends when there are no more matches or when one player has an insurmountable lead in number of matches. The winner of the round is the player who makes the most matches.
You'll probably also want to review the new section on "Game Types" in the Help.

I think you'll find a lot of nice improvements in this version. I hope you enjoy it. Work has already begun on the next update; it will likely focus on adding some new tile artwork.

I get quite a few questions along the lines of, "are the updates free if I already bought the game?" The answer is yes. You should be able to upgrade by launching the App Store app on your iPhone and clicking on the Updates tab. If Moonlight Mahjong doesn't show up there for some reason, then you can do the upgrade through iTunes. Launch iTunes, make sure your device is synced, and click on the "Applications" tab. Look on the bottom for "Updates Available" and follow that link. After you've updated the app in iTunes, just re-sync your device and you should be good to go.
